Right now the Toronto Raptors are on a 3 game losing streak which has sunk them to an even win/loss record and 6th place for the Eastern Conference playoffs. The cause of this streak? The Raptors obvious lack of depth inside. With Michael Curry going on the IR and Robert Archibald hurt, they are in desperate need of a big man. Yes I know Jerome Moiso is on the bench ready to play but Coach Kevin O’Neill doesn’t find him adequate enough to play minimal minutes. Whether that’s right or wrong is not for me to decide, but what the Raps need to decide on is where they are going to get a big man to eat up mins and also be strong enough to play center.
Some people have suggested:
Stanley Roberts, but he lost 15-0 in a pickup game against Archibald and the Raps declined to offer him a contract (hmmm…I wonder why?...)
Charles Oakley, Toronto GM Glen Grunwald would swallow a lot of things before he swallows his pride and asks Oakley to join the Raptors again.
Tyrone Hill, he might actually work out. He’s ugly enough to scare his opponents but maybe just a little too small to bang with the bib boys.
So what’s the Raptors alternative??? Settle whatever issue(s) O’Neill has with Moiso and vice versa. Moiso may not be the next Chamberlain but he’s more than adequate enough to eat up some mins in the center position. Though Grunwald may be reluctant to do this, he might have to intervene and put a little pressure on his 1st year coach. He might be able to get away with it. It’s time for the Raptors to field the best possible team on the court. It might have been passable when star Vince Carter was playing but now that he’s hurt it’s time to find the best possible way to get wins. And I believe Moiso helps get the Raptors those wins.
Without wins Grunwald is out of a job. Something to think about Glen…..
